Poem by R Hunsicker

*Pop
Fizzle
Gulb*
The red syrup glissens
While sliding down my throat.
A blast of refreshing sugar,
Waterfalling down,
Spreading the fruity goodness.
Why do I always have to sweat at 10pm?
When walking back to my car
The light illuminating the damp streets
Making the white lines shine through the eyes of Mabel
I never thought the grape vine would be so fun to learn
On the battered stage
While screaming the alto line
Because no one else cared enough to learn it
So I took the lead
Without usually being the lead
But now I am the lead, you know?
Or at least, one of the leads.
Doesn’t really feel like I'm a lead though.
Like heck, what makes a lead?
The tape’s stuck on my index and ring finger
Relentlessly hugging me
Through my muddled curses.
Propping the poster up with my elbow,
It’s time to use my teeth
Yellow, but not enough to be called yellow
What if they were blue or green?
Why must teeth be white
Haven’t whites claimed enough already?
What happens when a clown loses its rainbow wig?
Is it no longer a clown?
Did they break an oath?
Let everyone down?
What does that make me?
The clown of the party
Gossiping about Rich
(Oh how I hate gossiping
But I do it because I love it)
and his unstable reaction to the drug he’s on
But don’t worry
It’s just a computer
That he swallowed
That's default setting is Keanu Reeves
… Okay maybe worry a little.
The bathroom song
Who knew it would be everyone’s favorite!
Being miserable and high in the bathroom at a highschool party
Weeping to Tswift
And hiding from your friends...
Just the thing everyone loves to relate to.
At least we just have normal Mountain dew
With a cheap-ass label tapped over
So everyone will pretend it’s Mountain Dew Red
The only thing that can kill the robot
You know, that one that’s in Rich’s brain
Oh, and everyone else's brain too, by the end.
I love how Keanu Reeves was played
by my genderfluid pal
But no one knows
Except for us
That the queer community was getting rep
From people who cared
Because no one else cared
Not the street lights
Or the students
Never the director
So we were cast aside
Kinda just like that soda,
Only made in 1988
Forgotten after it’s brief
moment of stardom.
